Fight Evil with Teriyaki

Each morning as I begrudgingly leave the apartment to head to the office I am hit with an insufferable smell that fills the entire 3rd floor of my building. About two months ago some evil neighbor decided to turn their apartment into a mutant fish rotting center that operates from 7am until 8pm. That, or they have found that the fountain of youth entails eating mass amounts of home composted mackeral for breakfast lunch and dinner. The resulting smell is so potent that even when breathing through my mouth I have to run down the stairs to keep from gagging and possibly attaching some stank fish molecules to my sweater. Despite much sniffing and evil eye giving I have only been able to narrow the perpetrator down to one end of the hall, which has about 5 apartments. But even when I do find the smell maker what can I really do? So while I debate the merits of confrontation and what to do when I find the perp, I will reluctantly join them- and cook some much less stinky and more delicious fish...

Teriyaki Glazed Salmon
2 salmon fillets
Teriyaki glaze (I like kikkoman brand)
Carrots – 4 or 5
Scallions
Rice – regular or if you can’t handle multiple cooking things at once get Uncle Ben’s 90 second microwave bag. It makes 2 portions and is sooo easy

Preheat oven to 450 degrees
Cover 1 large or two small baking pans with tinfoil
Spray tinfoil with Pam
Peel carrots and slice at an angle
Sprinkle carrots with ½ teaspoon of salt
Pour 2 tablespoon of glaze over carrots and toss to coat
Place carrots on pan and put in oven.
Set timer for 30 mins.

While Baking…
Chop scallions and sprinkle with salt
Sprinkle salt and pepper on salmon surface - coat surface with glaze (1to two tablespoons per fillet)
Sprinkle chopped scallions on salmon fillets
After the carrots have baked for 10 minutes open the oven to put the salmon on the other end of the pan or the 2nd pan and bake everything for 20 mins.

Make the rice while the food is baking and serve 1 scoop of rice on each plate –put the salmon on top of it and the carrots on the side.

Now your apartment will hopefully smell like a delicious and swanky Japanese teriyaki house instead of the neighborly odors seeping through the walls.

Don't you love fall term?

Odin!

Seems Anthony Hopkins has signed on to play the chief Norse god himself along with AMDAL favorite N. Portman in "THOR" which is scheduled for release in 2011. I'm interested to see Sliepnir, the eight-hooved horse myself.

Unemployment Day 2: Movember!

In honor of my recent immersion into the world of unemployment, my proximity to Mountain Prep Man ErikJ and my love for wacky one month experiments, I'm growing a 'stache. So far, like the house, it looks like shit (pic after the jump). That said, I'm doing it. To achieve some sort of relevance, I've teamed up with the group below, called Movember, a nonprofit that helps raise money for the awareness and prevention of man-cancer (testicular, prostate).

If you're interested in donating, please click here or read more after the jump. No pressure. Thanks in advance - I look forward to sharing my experience as an AD pledge with you all.

The cat is ErikJ's but I use her occasionally for photo opps

I have decided to join a global movement that is bringing much needed attention to cancers that affect men. I’m doing this by growing a Moustache this Movember, the month formerly known as November. My commitment is to grow a moustache all November and I am hoping that you will support my efforts by making a donation. The funds raised go to the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LIVESTRONG).

What many people don’t know is that 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime and testicular cancer is the most common cancer in men aged 18-35. Facts like these have convinced me I should get involved.

To make a donation, you can either:

• Click this link http://us.movember.com/mospace/255790/ and donate online using your credit card or PayPal account , or
• Write a check payable to ‘Movember Foundation’, referencing my Registration Number 255790 and mailing it to: Movember Foundation, PO Box 2726, Venice, CA 90294-2726.

All donations are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.

The Prostate Cancer Foundation will use the money raised by Movember to fund research to find better treatments and a cure for prostate cancer.

The Lance Armstrong Foundation will use the money raised by Movember to fund:

• The LIVESTRONG Young Adult Alliance program which has the goal of improving survival rates and quality of life for young adults with cancer between the ages of 15 and 40.
• Research initiatives to further understand the biology of adolescent and young adult cancers.
