Many of you know Cam F. For those of you who know him, there's a chance he's said something offensive to you or in your presence. This might have caused you to not like him. For those of you who don't know Cam, there's a good chance you know a Cam.
But how well do you know your Cam? Have you given him or her the chance to see he / she is an interesting person that isn't just an asshole, but also a smart, creative asshole that likes to go on hikes, night bike rides, and have long discussions about the problems of today? In my mind, anyone who's willing to say to himself "I'm an asshole and I'm going to try to be better" gets a second look. After a few rough patches of relationships and friendships gone bad, that's exactly what Cam said to himself. Most importantly, however, he's largely stuck to his promise and I've enjoyed watching the transformation.
Read on to hear about how the above pic came to be and what it turned into.
Cam took the picture above on one of our aforementioned night bike rides. The goal of the trip was to get some pictures for his Aunt so she could then paint them. She wanted something that showed off San Francisco at night. Being a Tuesday evening made it somewhat difficult, but we set out from the In-N-Out at Fishermen's Wharf (Animal style fries and a grilled cheese with everything, NBD) with high hopes. We rode our bikes down the Embarcadero, taking a few shots here and there with his digital camera. We ended up meandering our way over to one place we knew people would still be out and about at that time and day of the week: The Castro.
If you don't know, the Castro is the gay epicenter of San Francisco. It also happens to be a fun place to go out and people watch. The busy part of the street is only about three blocks long, so we walked up the hill from 19th to Market Street, passing the historic Castro Theater. What caught our eye was Hot Cookie , a late-night cookie store that is home of the dick cookie, aka "dick on a stick" aka "dickscicle." After convincing some drunk girls to buy said dick cookie and then purchasing our own phallic-free cake-like products, Cam got a few good shots from outside the store. The one above turned out to be good enough for his Aunt, who painted a version of the photo. Read Cam's words and check out the painting below.
Check this out! My Aunt is an amazing artist and she is being featured in a show in Santa Fe over 4th of July. She needed another San Francisco piece - so MLR and I went on a night adventure and snapped some shots for her. Love it - painting and photo.
Second chances people. Hard to say what we'd miss out on without them.

Thanks? Hot cookie!
haha - perfect response - "Thanks?"
Passive-Aggressiveness level of this blog post is high.
Likely due to my poor writing and conveyance of meaning and not ill-will towards Cam.
To prove it, see us enjoying cookie dough together here
did you purposefully make your story give absolutely no supporting evidence to your thesis?
Anyone want to go for a bike ride?
Great post! Looking online at apartments in the Castro as we speak... Hot cookie!
Cam and I are going to try hard to make "Hot Cookie" a saying. Example:
Mike: I'll drop by post-dinner
Cam: Who you going to dinner with?
Mike: This dude I met at that conference in DC.
Cam: Hot Cookie!
Wait, the guys name is hot cookie? Those castro night rides are really rubbing off on you, huh?
Cam I'll always be there to grind your millet....always.
Oh Sherpa how I miss your mortar and pestle! Hot cookie!
