Jam of the Week: Cee-Lo Green - "Fuck You"

What up JOTW fans. It's been a while, but like a fine wine, JOTW only gets better with time and a long stint in a dark dingy (sex dungeon?) basement. As one commenter pointed out, I took a break from AMDAL to reassess my life and how blogging to a large group fits in. Turns out, it's hard for me to live at least without JOTW. Plus I've found the last several weeks to be pretty exciting on the hip hop front. This week I serve up some relatively new faces as well as some old. Hopefully these videos were worth the wait (or at least worth clicking through on your RSS feeder).

The above jam doesn't disappoint. With a catchy song that seems to be his version of my favorite song ever and a fun video (who doesn't like watching fat kids say "fuck you!" before getting slapped upside the head by their momma?), Cee-Lo shows he's not messing around with his solo gig. There's at least 10 girls who I'd probably want to play this song - thanks for doing my dirty work Cee-Lo.

Wiz Khalifa - "In The Cut"

Straight party jam and video from newcomer Wiz Khalifa. If you like this at all, check out the mixtape from which this came, Kush and Orange Juice. It's been hailed as one of the best mixtapes of the year, and I can't say I disagree. If this week's JOTW does one thing, it's getting you to at least check out more of Wiz. You'll be seeing a lot more of this guy over the next year or so. Pittsburgh stand up!

Big Boi feat Yelawolf - "You Ain't No DJ"

If you haven't been paying attention, Big Boi does pretty well on AMDAL. This video is no exception, with its great song and lyrics, chopped up visuals (likely to go with the whole DJ scratching idea), and liberal use of pit bulls (Big Boi breeds them). But what I really liked (again, no surprise to JOTW fans) is the addition of whiteboy rapper, Yelawolf. I've talked about guest rappers coming in and putting the headliners to shame, and while this doesn't happen here, Yelawolf definitely holds his own. I'm guessing we'll see Yelawolf more, and with co-signs from Big Boi, Eminem and others, and a very good mixtape, his success is all but assured.

Asher Roth - "G.R.I.N.D."

What can I say about Asher Roth that I haven't already said? He's getting better and better with each song and similar to the jam above, his sophomore album, "Spaghetti Tree," is supposed to tackle more substantial topics than the last, "Asleep In The Bread Aisle". Not a hard one to do considering "Lark On My Go Kart," centered around the actress who played Lisa Turtle on Saved By The Bell.

Old School JOTW: Lauryn Hill - "Doo Wop (That Thing)"

The bitch is back! Lauryn hill has been popping up all over the internets lately. Looks like she's pushing hard for a comeback. One can only hope. When one of the most respected rappers begs via song for her to come back, you know this is a big deal. Fingers crossed it turns out good and not Shyne-like (Shyne addendum: You're in trouble if Lloyd Banks says you have the "wackest record of the year").
