Dwight K. Schrute vs. Lil Wayne
So first, an Los Angeles DJ named Clockwork remixed the NBC show theme song along with the song "Hustler Muzik" by Lil Wayne. HypeMachine subsequently blows up in mid-March with the song and because I don't frequent the music blogosphere enough, I missed it. But it's OK, because in mid-April, a guy named Torrey Meeks, who has done some somewhat viral video mashups in the past, cut the remixed song with various clips from The Office, which I found on another music blog in mid-May. So cool stuff gets to me in rural Massachusetts...eventually.

Where The Wild Things Were/Are
Hello civilization. It's been a little over a week since I flew back from the West Coast where for 6 weeks I slept in a tent, backpacked outside Yosemite, whitewater rafted past Sutter's Mill, and summitted Mount Shasta. Twice. I led two three-week trips for a company called Overland, which has a nice little lineage of trip leaders you might know.
Weekends without smartphones? Try weeks without regular access to cell phones, beds, toilets, and fridges. It's scary yet incredibly liberating at the same time. I'd encourage everyone to try it sometime, if only for an extended weekend. You become incredibly aware of your carbon footprint and how much you depend on technology. Oh, and how awesome ice cream is.
Here's a pic from the 14,179 ft. peak of Mount Shasta with 3 of my students and a guide.
And here's the trailer for a movie coming out soon that looks awesome. Based on the childrens book we've all at some point read or was read aloud to us.
P1 Update #2
Our man in the mountains is currently in Virginia, which surprisingly composes roughly a quarter of the mileage of the AT due to a diagonally meandering trail cut across the state.
Future doctor Brian C. joined him on the trail for a day a couple weeks ago bearing gifts of fine food and drink, quite an improvement over dehydrated meat and noodles.
And below is my favorite text from the man who's acquired the apt trail name, "Dinner Time"..
April 17th: "I'm stoned in the middle of a grassy field right now eating cookies."
P1 Update

As some of you may know, the man pictured above started hiking the Appalachian Trail on March 18th, 2009 from Springer Mountain, Georgia heading north towards Maine. I'll try to keep AMDALers posted as to his progress the next few months. Here are the text messages I've received from the mountain man himself...
March 20: "30 miles in. So far so good."
March 25: "Crossed into NC [North Carolina] today. Finally getting some big mileage days in. In my tent right now in the middle of a hellish rain storm at 4500ft."
April 9: "I am in a privy taking a dump in the middle of nowhere in NC..How great is life?"
