I Say Fro, You Say Yo

New York goes from sweet and pretty to muggy and sweltering in a heartbeat. For me, glimpses of humidity and walking around in the sunshine lead to intense fro yo cravings. What is it with girls and fro yo? We love it, we crave it, we put wayyy too many toppings on it and honestly if I could get my daily vitamins and fiber intake from Pink berries and tasty d swirls alone, I think I could be content living on the stuff all summer long.

This summer love is what made last week's fed ex delivery so exciting; a magical gift arrived in our apartment --- a Cuisinart ice cream, sorbet and frozen yogurt maker. What!? You say. Make your own frozen yogurt?!! Make your own flavors in the comfort of your own tiny apartment??? Yes, my friends it is true. I have done it, it was easy and yes It was gooooood.

Gather your roommates, nag your bf, do whatever it takes and get yourself a cusinart model #ICE-30BE to make this delicious concoction...

Giada's Watermelon Spiked Pops

Like many of my classmates, I spent much of my sophomore summer at Dartmouth strategizing how to extract the most fun out of each moment. Also like my classmates, many of these moments and strategies were spent under the influence of alcohol. In one particular flash of “brilliance” I came up with the idea of a beer popsicle… to somehow incorporate the summer’s key ingredient in a delicious cold dessert to be inconspicuously consumed at on-campus BBQs. Unluckily, or luckily, this frosty treat never made it past the conception phase.

Flash forward 5 years years later… life is a bit slower, much soberer and I’m watching the cooking channel. Giada De Laurentiis in all her Italian glory is concocting a delicious looking popsicle made with watermelon, sugar and vodka. It may not be beer but it sure looks amazing. So with the last big summer weekend staring us in the face, go celebrate, BBQ and be the most popular kid at the party when you make these watermelon pops!

If you don't have popsicle molds, use paper cups!

Empire of the Sun - "Eclipse Broadcast"

Did you know there's such a thing as SPF 70 sunblock? It's a little ridiculous when apparently "an SPF of 50 only provides 1% to 2% more protectionthan an SPF 30." That said, if the sun god (or his musical equivalent above) wears zinc all over his upper face, you have to second guess everything you think you know about protection. You also have to watch the video.

When I found this clip on Kanye's blog, I initially skipped it because the screenshot I saw above looked a bit too weird for me. Human swordfish, pyramid people and a guy wearing a giant magnet hat while playing the guitar didn't exactly seem JOTW material. And then I played the song. It is weird, don't get me wrong, but in the post-MJ era, it's nice to hear a little funk now and then. Listen close enough and you can hear Prince, [Symbol for Prince] Prince. Look close enough and you can see Bowie. Lick close enough and you'll taste everyone's finger who's ever annoyingly touched your monitor.

Either way, it's a fun video to watch and equally fun song(s?) to listen to. But you want a buddy handy. That way they can get your back. Yea...that's the spot...
