Just when you thought life sucked enough, given med school finals beginning tomorrow, here's another reminder why you shouldn't forget that things can always get worse.
This is, of course, especially true if you're a diehard RedSox fan. After two embarrassing games out west, where our season road record held true, we came triumphantly back to the Friendly Confines of Fenway. We led the whole game! I could already envision Lester and Beckett pitching marvelously in games 4 and 5 and yet another amazing comeback victory.
But it wasn't to be. Jonathan Paplebon's never-been-scored-on-before playoff run came to a disappointing end as the RedSox blew a 9th inning lead to end the game, series, and season --doing it all in a fashion only we're capable of.
This message, sent by email from my dad (a Yankee fan) and shown in its entirety, sums it up just about right:
You are a Red Sox fan and should not get used to winning.
Thanks dad.

I might love your dad for that e-mail.
And if it's wrong, I don't want to be right.
From his email, it seems that you were a rebellious youth... Otherwise, how could your dad, the Yankees fan, let you grow up to be a RedSoxs fan?!?
Great post. Papelbon's collapse was a long time coming and a fitting end to a depressing series. Of course, we are in no position to complain after 2004 and 2007, but this was a disappointing showing nonetheless.
I guess we'll always have this from 2009:
