Welcome to a new “lifestyle” addition to AMDAL --- hold on to your hats… it's a cooking section! In an attempt to spice things up and introduce some of you to your inner top chef, I wanted to provide some easy recipes for the college grad with minimal cooking skills and even less kitchen space. Hopefully I can help assuage your fear of the stove and even get you some brownie points on your next date by adding some easy and delicious recipes into your arsenal. Recession friendly and fairly healthy, these recipes aim to ease your dependency on take out and provide your waistline a much needed break from endless parade of office birthday cakes.
In an effort to start at the VERY beginning, this first breakfast egg "recipe" could be made by a 5 yr old with stove privileges and is prominently featured in the 2005 movie “V for Vendetta."
Not only is this ridiculously simple but it is the PERFECT hangover cure… master this and you are sure to impress roommates or over night guests to the extent of … "he made me breakfast! Awwwwww."
Here we go...
Egg in a Hole
Ingredients/Supplies
- 1 egg
- 1 piece bread (whole grain =best)
- Pam (cooking spray)
- 1 frying pan
- Take top of Pam bottle and cut out a round circle in piece of bread (save circle.)
- Spray pan with Pam and put on stove over medium heat, put bread on stove and carefully crack egg into cut out circle. Place circle of bread on pan to cook at same time.
- Flip both pieces after about 2 minutes and let cook two more minutes on the other side.
- Salt, pepper and serve (franks red hot sauce recommended)
- Use grilled circle piece to sop up runny yoke (insert dirty joke here. Orrrr leave it in the comments)

These are called "Egg in the Holes". They are delicious. If you don't want to use Pam, butter both sides of the bread for a more even brown.
In the transition to adulthood and a constant battle with with deciding what to cook after a long day at work, this is a great addition to AMDAL.

As an avid follower of the now-defunct "All My Meals Aren't Live" blog, I am delighted to see this new addition to AMDAL. Welcome, and keep up the good work!
Yay for domestic posts! Looking forward to an ongoing, more tasteful AMDAL column.
